From the Desk of Fr. Mike Dear Friends, This weekend we begin a new liturgical year with the Season of Advent. During this season we do not just look forward to commemorate Jesus’ birth, his entering our history. Rather, we are challenged to recognize his entering our lives each day. So the theme of watchfulness recalls his continual coming and our need to be alert to recognize him. As we stay alert watching and listening to know Jesus’ presence, we must work to prepare the way of the Lord, to make straight his paths into our world and into our hearts so that we may share Mary’s willingness to do God’s will. May we always pray “Be it done to me according to your word.” Here is an Advent Prayer that can be shared throughout the season: Lord Jesus, bless this Advent. Bless our families and friends. Bless the poor, the lonely, and the forgotten with your presence and your peace. As we begin to wait, may we no longer wait to begin! Speak to us Lord, as we ponder your holy word. In the homily, our new ministers were exhorted to do their service with great love.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PADRE MIKE

Este fin de semana, da comienzo el nuevo año litúrgico con el tiempo de Adviento. Durante este tiempo, no solamente nos enfocamos en conmemorar el nacimiento de Jesús, y su ingreso en nuestra historia, más bien se nos reta a reconocer su llegada diaria en nuestras vidas. Entonces el tema de la vigilancia evoca su llegada continua y nuestra necesidad de estar vigilantes para reconocerlo. Mientras estamos vigilantes, observando y escuchando la presencia de Jesús, debemos trabajar para preparar el camino del Señor y hacer un sendero recto en nuestro mundo y en nuestros corazones, para que nosotros podamos compartir la disponibilidad de María al plan de Dios. Que podamos orar siempre: “Hágase en mi según tu Palabra”. Aquí hay una Oración de Adviento que se puede compartir a través de este tiempo: Señor Jesús, bendice este Adviento. Bendice con tu presencia y con tu paz a nuestras familias y amigos. Bendice a los pobres, los que viven en soledad solitarios y olvidados. Mientras comenzamos a esperar, ¡que no más esperemos para empezar! Háblanos Señor, mientras contemplamos tu santa palabra. Te pedimos todo esto en tu nombre. Amén.

El mismo día se ha instituido como Lector a Luis González y como Ministra Extraordinaria de la Comunión Nidia Fuentes. La Comunidad Parroquial, y en particular la Comunidad Hispana, se alegra por el regalo de estos nuevos servidores del Altar, la Palabra y la Eucaristía. ¡Muchas felicidades!

LA CORONA DE ADVIENTO Uno de los elementos del Adviento es la corona que se coloca en las iglesias y en las casas para marcar el paso de las semanas antes de la Navidad. Esta corona encierra varios simbolismos: La forma circular: El círculo no tiene principio ni fin. Es señal del amor de Dios que es eterno, sin principio y sin fin, y también de nuestro amor a Dios y al prójimo que nunca debe de terminar. Las ramas verdes: Verde es el color de esperanza y vida. Dios quiere que esperemos su gracia, el perdón de los pecados y la gloria eterna al final de nuestras vidas. El anhelo más importante en nuestras vidas debe ser llegar a una unión más estrecha con Dios, nuestro Padre. Las cuatro velas: Nos hacen pensar en la obscuridad provocada por el pecado que ciega al hombre y lo aleja de Dios. Después de la primera caída del hombre, Dios fue dando poco a poco una esperanza de salvación que iluminó todo el universo como las velas la corona. Así como las tinieblas se disipan con cada vela que encendemos, los siglos se fueron iluminando con la cada vez más cercana llegada de Cristo a nuestro mundo. Son cuatro velas las que se ponen en la corona y se prenden de una en una, durante los cuatro domingos de adviento al hacer la oración en familia.

ORACION PARA LA PRIMERA SEMANA DE ADVIENTO LLAMADA A LA VIGILANCIA Se puede entona el canto: Ven, ven, Señor no tardes Guía: En el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Lector: Lee el evangelio de San Marcos 13: 33 (Breve pausa para meditar) Guía: Vigilar significa estar atentos, salir al encuentro del Señor, que quiere entrar, este año más que el pasado, en nuestra existencia, para darle sentido total y salvarnos. ENCENDER DE LA VELA (Generalmente lo hace el más pequeño de la casa o algún joven) Guía: Encendemos, Señor, esta luz, como aquel que enciende su lámpara para salir, en la noche, al encuentro del amigo que ya viene. En esta primer semana de Adviento queremos levantarnos para esperarte preparados, para recibirte con alegría. Muchas sombras nos envuelven. Muchos halagos nos adormecen. Queremos estar despiertos y vigilantes, porque tú traes la luz más clara, la paz más profunda y la alegría más verdadera. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!
